1. What did you do in 2011 that you’d never done before?
S. and I moved in with my mum-in-law I’ve never lived with anyone except my family.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I can’t remember if I made any, I think I did but most were house related and we know how that worked out.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My friend K gave birth to another beautiful baby boy. She now has two, they are incredible.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No. But, Muffin was lost and that pretty much broke my heart.

5. What countries did you visit?
Only Tobago 2x.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
To realise some circumstances in my life are there to teach me a lesson. That I cannot control everything. That I must be the director of my own happiness. (end emo-ness)

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
14th February. The day Muffin vanished.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
S. and I still being together, still being committed to one another after the trials of leaving our new home, waiting to sell it, living with someone else.

9. What was your biggest failure?
My restlessness, my behaviour with what I felt life gave to me unjustly.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Yes. Tonsillitis x2 check, Shingles check, very bad virus x 2 check!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Hmm. Not quite sure if I bought anything for myself that was so “significant”. But I really love the Kindle G. bought me for my birthday, I don’t know what I would do without it. The loveliest thing I bought for myself was probably a pair of pearl earrings for my birthday.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
S. and mine (sometimes)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My own.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Eeeek. Internet purchases, makeup, books, healthy eating

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to Tobago alone with S for some ‘us time’. Christmas!

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Golly, I don’t know. I think certain scents remind me of 2011 more than songs. A creme that reminds me of 2011 is a cocoa and mango butter creme.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Alot happier.
Older or wiser? Both.
Thinner or fatter? Thinner (work in progress!).
Richer or poorer? Poorer!

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Exercising, seeing movies, reading more books.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Stressing out, crying over being stuck in traffic.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent Christmas with my brother and sister-in-law, then S. met me later and a couple of our friends headed up for a dinner with another good friend. The company was so good!

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
Even more with S. He is so good to me.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
OOOH lots. Ringer! Hart of Dixie! Dancing with the Stars! SOAPS! Downton Abbey!

Yes, -the contractor- for our house.

A kindle, a Michael Kors watch.

More makeup and shoes

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I can’t remember but I really loved X Men, Breaking Dawn, Arthur Christmas

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 28. I had a bit of lunch with my wonderful work mates, then my mum-in-law cooked me a meal when I came home. It was v.quiet.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
LESS TRAFFIC!

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?
cardigans, cardigans, cardigans!

34. What kept you sane?
S, and my work mates.

None that sparkles in my mind.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I suppose like every other Trinidadian, the State of Emergency.

37. Who did you miss?
Muffin, my home, Cascade, my brother, mum, nanna.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
No one, but I did start eating better and going to the gym to help with my stress levels, and I’ve remained committed thus far. I would say the best new person I met was really a place, a space.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011:
You cannot control everything, you need to make yourself happy, no one else can do it for you. YES SERIOUSLY PEOPLE!

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

I can quote from a poem. This literally sums up 2011 and how I felt about things.

Adrienne Rich – Shooting Script

“Whatever it was, the image that stopped you, the one on which you
came to grief, projecting it over & over on empty walls.

Now to give up the temptations of the projector; to see instead the
web of cracks filtering across the plaster.

To read there the map of the future, the roads radiating from the
initial split, the filaments thrown out from that impasse.

To reread the instructions on your palm; to find there how the
lifeline, broken, keeps its direction.

To read the etched rays of the bullet-hole left years ago in the
glass; to know in every distortion of the light what fracture is.

To put the prism in your pocket, the thin glass lens, the map
of the inner city, the little book with gridded pages.

To pull yourself up by your own roots; to eat the last meal in
your old neighborhood.”
